Ongar hit 6 against Rayleigh

Ongar Town continued their strong early season form with another resounding victory, this time winning 6-1 against a spirited Rayleigh Town team on another hot September day..

Ongar, making a couple of changes to the squad with Manager Richard Ponsford having to make his first start of the season in goal due to the absence of No.1 Danny Haymes with a slight knock and 16 year old Reserve player Alfie Goodall coming into the squad after some fine performances for the Reserves recently..

Ongar started the game quickly again, racing into a 1 nil after 2 mins through Joe Lilly after another fine defence splitting Tom Leach pass.. but as the half wore on Rayleigh grew in confidence and got a foot hold in the game. Rayleigh Goal Keeper Ryan Creed making a fine double save 10 mins before half time to deny Aaron Blair and couple more chances were wasted to put daylight between the 2 teams.. Rayleigh Town then capitalised on some poor decision making in the Ongar defence with the home team keep givin away needless freekicks around the home penalty area.. The away team took their opportunity 5 minutes before half time with Lewis Lawrence smashing a quickly taken free kick from 18 yards in off the far post.. 1-1 at the break!!

Ongar came out for the 2nd half clearly under orders to up their work rate and intensity.. and that’s exactly what they did.. With 15 mins gone in 2nd half Ongar worked an opportunity around the away penalty area, a couple of quick one twos between McCabe and Blair and Blair slotted in Ongars 2nd goal of the game.. Ongar were now in the ascendancy and quickly added a decisive 3rd goal through Mitchell McCabe, his 2 goal in as many games..

Ongar clearly dominating now and continued to apply pressure to the away teams defence and Joe Lilly added another well worked fourth goal after clever play by himself and Boxall..

Ongar’s defence in the 2nd half was excellent and protected the home debutant Goal Keeper perfectly without him needing to make a single save with Tom Leach having an outstanding game at the back..

With 10 minutes left Blair went on to complete his hat trick, more incisive quick passing through the midfield, wide to Lilly who crossed the ball to back post for Blair to slot in a simple tap in.. very Manchester City esque!!

Ongar’s 2nd half dominance allowed young Alfie Goodall to come on and make his First team debut, showing good confidence in all what he was asked to do.. All in all, another good day at the office for this young hungry team, the 2nd half attitude and desire especially pleasing to the Manager
