Ongar Town make it 5 in 5 with win against Manford Way

The Town got back into league action today with a convincing 2-1 victory away at a organised and resilient Manford Way side.

Ongar got into their stride early, controlling the football and creating early chances to score.. They then opened the scoring on 15 minutes with Harry Rawlins creating his own space, getting away from his marker to bend a ferocious left foot strike into the far corner past the home keeper.. 1 nil Town.. Ongar continued to press for more with Blair and McCabe seeing shots going just over the bar and Nyahunda hitting the crossbar with a header from only a yard out!! Ongar then had a good team goal wrongly chalked off for offside when Blair slotted in at the far post after coming from behind the defender to finish well.. Chance after chance now with the home team failing to get out of their half, Blair then seized on home error to slot a close range effort under the advancing keeper to make it 2 nil to the Away team. Stayed 2 nil at the break when half time whistle blew with Ongar clearly upset at so many missed chances.

Second half kicked off with Ongar pretty much carrying on from where we left off with controlling the tempo and not allowing the home side any real time to settle into the game, albeit without Ongar making as many chances as we did in the first half.. As the second half wore on Manford Way grew in confidence, what with the away side not adding anymore goals and now not really creating anything of note, seemingly settling for a 2 nil away win.. The home side clearly needing to do something to get back into the game, started going a bit longer and finally got their reward for their persistence and tenacity to stay in the game when Ongar failed to deal with a bouncing 2nd ball and the home centre forward smashed a brilliant dipping volley into the top corner with only five minutes left! Sadly, nothing of note happened for the home side in the remaining minutes and Ongar Town recorded our fifth straight league win in a row allowing us to go 3 points clear at the top of the league. Good result for the away team..
