OTFC hit 6 past Halstead Town FC to progress into the next round of the Essex Premier Cup

Updated: Oct 25, 2019

OTFC embarked on their first ever EST campaign away vs Thurlow Nunn club, Halstead Town at the Milbank stadium.

Both teams started the game brightly and for 15 or so minutes the game was quite an even affair with both teams creating a few minor chances and Ongar’s Danny Haymes making a good save from the home centre forward after a defensive mix up.. But from that point there was only one team in the game.. 5 minutes later Aaron Blair latched on to a through ball and cooly slotted home in the far coner for his first goal of the day. 0-1 the Town!!

Ongar’s 2nd goal was almost identical, with Blair running onto another fine through ball to provide a quality finish in the same far corner.. 2 nil to the away side..

Ongar, clearly smelling blood now, hammered home their first half dominance with Blair completing yet another hat trick for the club rounding the defence and curling a superb finish into the far corner past the despairing home Goal Keeper.. HT 0-3.

The 2nd half started in similar fashion to the first, with the home team clearly wound up and intent on getting back into the game started strongly, but Ongar are a strong resilient side and now playing some wonderful football on a difficult surface started to create more chances with Blair tormenting the home side down the left hand side, putting in tremendous workrate and energy, setting up substitute Jaydon Campbell for his first senior goal after his call up from the Reserve side. 0-4 to the away side and only team team in the game now. 0-4 turned to 0-5 with Joe Lilly adding his name to the scoresheet from the spot after Blair was upended in the box and penalty given.

The home side then were gifted a goal with 10 minutes left after a slight defensive error by Chadwick allowed the home centre forward through to score at the second attempt.. 1-5..

But there was still time for Campbell to get his 2nd goal of the game with 2 minutes left when he slotted home from close range after more superb football from the Away side.. Full time whistle blown and a superb performance by the Town and through to the next round we go!!

A few stand out performers today with Chadwick looking dominant at the heart of the defence with Cox.. Harry Herbert was excellent in his first start of the season but man of the match was Blair with his 3 goal haul and was, at times, unplayable today!!

Up the Town!!! 🔥🔥🔥
