OTFC 2 - 1 FC Hamlets

Ongar looks to get back to winning ways with a home game against a Hamlets side having a mixed start to the season. Ongar started brightly as usual but lost home skipper Jake Chadwick to a nasty injury after 8 minutes forcing a defensive reshuffle seeing Mitch McCabe drop into the centre of the home defence.

10 mins later the home side broke the deadlock with Aaron Blair finishing off at the back post after great work from Boxall and Lilly providing him with a simple finish to make it 1-0.

This usually is where Ongar kick on from, but Hamlets we’re proving to be a strong, difficult opponent and deservedly equalised 5 minutes before the break with a good team goal scored by Charlie Heatly.

HALT TIME 1-1.

The 2nd half started with Ongar desperate to get on the front foot. Clearly under orders from their manager to up the tempo and move the ball quicker, they got into their stride quickly and started to put real pressure on the away team and especially their goal keeper, Nick Pyne, who pulled off 4 superb saves to deny the home side and keep the game level going into the last 10 mins.

With pressure building and Ongar now knocking on the door, the home side were awarded a freekick out wide on the right in the 82 minute.

Frank Goodall stepped up, whipped in a superb low cross, which was met acrobatically by Ongar Town defender, Paul Cox, connecting brilliantly to steer his volley past the helpless Pyne to make it 2-1 and seal a thoroughly deserved victory in difficult circumstances after the early defensive disruption and reshuffle. This may prove to be a superb result in the race for the title over coming months, excellent win chaps!! Game finished 2-1 to the Town!! 👌
