Well fought 4-2 win vs Ramsden Scotia keeps 100% record alive.

Ramsden Scotia arrived at the Fortress Fyfield with a solid reputation, albeit after a pretty slow start to the season and on paper this game should’ve been a relatively simple affair taking Ongar’s superb early season form into account, but it proved not to be the case..

Ongar Town, making 3 changes from the last game with Town’s No.1 Danny Haymes, coming back in goal to replace the gaffer after his first (and hopefully last) outing of the season.. Ryan Hart came in for Mitch McCabe and Adam Ashley replaced Steve Merrick at the heart of the home defence.

Ongar raced into an early lead with Ryan Hart scoring after only 18 seconds on the clock! It was 2-0 two mins later with the lively Boxall gettin his first goal of the day with a tidy finish from edge of area.. Ongar’s early season fast paced starts really catching teams off guard and quite impressive at times..

The third goal came after 15 mins, again a neat finish in the bottom corner from Boxall and rather than this being the moment for home team to really capitalise and push for more it seemed to have the reverse effect on the game with Ongar seemingly taking their collective foot off the gas thinking that the hard work was done and dusted..

This was not the case.. with Ongar’s clear lack of intensity now, Ramsden grew into the game and coupled with a few missed chances by Ongar’s Rawlins, scored their first goal after 20 minutes coming from a long throw from the halfway line that Ongar’s Chadwick failed to deal with, allowing Ramsden’s Auvache to score past Haymes at the second attempt. Game on..

Ramsden clearly grew in confidence sensing Ongar’s attitude and pushed hard for the remainder of the half. HT 3-1.

Ongar came out for the second half fully aware that they were in a proper game now and the next goal was a big one in the context of the game.. Quite an even second half for first 20 mins but Ramsdens desire and pressure paid off when Ongar’s Paul Cox gave another needless freekick away on the edge of the area much to his Managers annoyance!!

GOAL! Steve Paoletti stood over the ball, and curled a delightful finish in to the far top corner.. 3-2. Game well and truly on now and Ramsden’s energy and confidence grew again sensing the comeback was fully on.. Time to dig in for the home team to keep their home run going.. Both teams worked hard for the last 25 mins with not many chances being allowed at either end.. but finally, Ongar’s quality came to the fore.. Ongar produced one of their trademark corner routines, culminating in allowing Boxall to complete his hat trick with a free header 6 yards out bulleted past the away goal keeper into far corner.. and this proved the decisive goal with only 10 minutes left, seemingly taking the wind out of Ramsden’s sails giving the home team another valuable 3 points in their search for possible promotion..

Feeling of relief at getting the job done felt by all connected to the OTFC.. Focus now shifts to next weekend against Bishop Stortford Swifts in the Cup.. Another big game!!
